Natural Resources and Sustainability
Natural resources are the backbone of development; not only because of the economic value they generate but also because they preserve critical environmental and social functions. Their appropriate use and transformation create assets that contribute to the prosperity and wealth of present and future generations. However, the social, environmental and economic impact of the current natural resources management model threatens to limit their availability and their capacity to perform critical functions. This management model has also been a source of conflict, especially at the territorial level.
Espacio Público seeks to develop evidence-based public policy approaches and recommendations for institutional strengthening that allow for a sustainable use of natural resources. The goal is a policy framework that internalizes environmental externalities and that makes the use of natural resources compatible with national and territorial long-term needs.
