Mariano Montenegro

He is a psychiatrist from the University of Chile, he holds a master’s degree in Drug Dependence from the University of Alicante, Spain.

He was chief of the Drug Detoxification Unit and Chief of the Treatment and Rehabilitation Area of the National Council for the Control of Narcotic Drugs (Conace) during the first administration of Michelle Bachelet, while during her second term he served as Director of the National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Consumption (Senda).

He has also worked as a consultant to the Organization of American States (OAS) and is currently leading the work on a 2019-2022 national drug plan for the Ministry of the Interior, with the goal of developing a national drug strategy for the next decade.
