Valentina Paredes: She is an Economist from the University of Chile and PhD in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley. Her areas of research include the study of gender gaps in education, incentives for university and school students to exert effort, and the effect of teachers on student performance.
One of her studies on the impact of a teacher’s gender on the results of the Simce in mathematics (tests used in Chile to measure certain aspects of school curricula), was published in the journal Economics of Education Review and was awarded in 2015 as the best scientific research of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEN) in the University of Chile.
Currently, she is an Associate Researcher in the Socioeconomic Dimensions of the Conflict area at COES and Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Chile. Her areas of specialization are labor economics, with emphasis on the economics of education and gender economics.
